I really don’t know if they used a double for Kim, but in some scenes they couldn’t. Although a remake, after the great Steve McQueen – wich I really don’t find that great – I think this is the one to watch.
The story is kind of the same as the original, but the interpreters really made it a little special.
Watching Kim who definitely steals the show, and savoring the James Woods charisma with the twist of the role that put Madsen on the map is like having a delicious cake in front of you eating it with a large spoon.
Hoffman, although small role, gets the attention. After this movie I searched for that latina girl with high kitten who smoked all life, voice, to find out about Jennifer Tilly. Yes, the main actor is Baldwin, but he doesn’t do much, except looking good. Madsen, later on, never played a single role different, keeping the attitude from this movie, which got him the notoriety. Jennifer did almost the same. Let’s not forget David Morse who kept that perverted character from this movie and took it with him, make it a Morse brand. Hoffman, on the other hand, who was a nobody back then and he understood that he has to make a difference to stand out from the crowd. He did.
This is not a brilliant performance movie or some award winning movie. It didn’t even made it trough the box office, but is stays with you. Maybe is the chemistry released by the actors maybe is the pure action Hollywood style directing, i don’t know. But is one of those movies that televisions are playing it over and over again almost every year a few times.
I don’t recall any special soundtrack or filming in a very special way, but I do recall the suits Baldwin wore and the dresses that Kim had on and off, the white sexy cotton panties of Ms. Tilly. On that note Kim had a body to literally die for. The uncut version which you don’t get on TV leaves you with you’re mouth wide open lingering with memories deep down in your head.
Action movie, with the goods to see.
Madsen character: “It’s been my experience that having friends is overrated.”
